63rd Drive Mural

Our office is located in the lovely neighborhood of Rego Park in Queens, New York on 63rd Drive. Under the 63rd Drive Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) overpass there used to be a mural designed by Joshua Frankel  which was painted in 2009. The colorful mural spelt out “Real Good” which was how Rego Park adopted its official name back in the 1920s. The name Rego was derived from combining the names “real” and “good” from the Real Good Construction Company who was one of the first companies to start developing within the area. Overtime the mural was starting to chip and it became quite an eyesore within the community. Recently the Rego Park Green Alliance redid the mural making the underpass once again a proud masterpiece. According to the Rego Park Green Alliance’s official website, “It took over 400 hours to power wash, prime, base coat, and create & install the photography.  It took small businesses, a church, individuals, a councilmember, and a nonprofit to fund. The process:

  • 4 meetups with 35 people to take pictures
  • Grant writing
  • A sponsorship kit
  • Permission by the LIRR
  • People to scrape
  • A  power washer
  • A  lot of paint
  • An artist with vision
  • Community members willing to help scrape & paint
  • The LIRR to install (6) 4x6 foot boards. “

EXIT Realty One was more than happy to donate to the cause and we are thrilled about how the final project turned out….A job well done!
